About Rachel

Aim High Rachel Barkley

Who is Rachel? I am Rachel.

I am a communications enthusiast currently studying Public Relations with Marketing at Leeds Metropolitan University. The course has enabled me to develop my knowledge and skills within the industry, this has resulted in me landing a placement as a Communications Assistant at a leading healthcare company during my year in industry.

I have gained experience in both in-house and agency environments, over consumer, charity and corporate sectors. I have dreams of one day being in charge of designing and implementing effective corporate communications strategy.

I began this blog as an outlet for me to express opinions on communications, language, PR, marketing and many other general areas of interest. It has been a great journey and the perfect accompaniment to my degree providing me with some brilliant opportunities.

I am a self-confessed information addict, social media has given me the perfect opportunity to indulge in this with regular Tweeting, blogging and Facebook-ing. I also spend my spare time baking cakes for Fivestar Frog Splash, Leeds Met Ultimate Frisbee team. I spent a brilliant year as their club secretary, organising a lot of things which needed organising. I also occasionally play with team when my old ankle fracture allows me.

Why Aim High?

It is a motivational phrase my mother used, so not only does it act as tribute to the most influential woman in my life, it also feels very apt during this time in my life. I have changed the name in the past, but it never felt right.
